Detectives Arrest Suspect in Domestic-Related Homicide

Homicide Unit detectives arrested a suspect in connection with a recent homicide in Beltsville. The suspect is 23-year-old Canaan Peterson of the 1200 block of North Luzerne Avenue in Baltimore. He’s charged with fatally stabbing 27-year-old Antonio Barnes of Evans Trail in Beltsville. The suspect and victim were in a relationship.

On March 14th, at about 10:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the 11200 block of Evans Trail for a welfare check. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim outside suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect stabbed the victim during an argument. 

Peterson is charged with first degree murder and other related charges. He’s being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
