Detectives Charge Suspects in Connection With Adelphi Homicide

Homicide Unit detectives arrested two suspects in connection with Saturday’s homicide in Adelphi. The suspects are 19-year-old Hernan Sanchez-Vasquez of the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace in Silver Spring and 17-year-old Herminio Gonzalez-Sanchez of the 8000 block of 15th Avenue in Hyattsville. Both are charged with the death 20-year-old Henry Lopez-Hernandez of Emming Street in Cincinnati, OH. The suspects and victim were friends.

On September 17th at about 1:30 pm, officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police were called to a park in the 8000 block of Riggs Road to check on the welfare of a man. When they arrived, they found Lopez-Hernandez suffering from trauma to his upper body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspects and victim had a disagreement prior to the homicide.

Sanchez-Vasquez is charged with first and second degree murder. Gonzalez-Sanchez is being charged as an adult with first and second degree murder. Both are in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. Both suspects admitted their involvement in the homicide.
