Citizen Tip Helps Detectives Identify & Arrest Suspect in Murder of Alonzo Jackson

Demarko Wheeler

The Homicide Unit identified and arrested a man in connection with Wednesday's fatal shooting of 68-year-old Alonzo Jackson. The suspect is 20-year-old Demarko Wheeler of the 2000 block of Stanton Road in Southeast DC.
On July 20th, at about 7:00 am, patrol officers were called to a gas station in the 4900 block of Marlboro Pike in Capitol Heights. When they arrived, they found Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound. He died at a hospital several hours later.

The preliminary investigation reveals Jackson had just filled up his car when Wheeler approached and shot him. Wheeler then sped off in the victim’s car which was later recovered in the District.

A tip from a citizen helped detectives identify Wheeler who was arrested today in the District. Wheeler is charged with first degree murder, second degree murder and related charges. He's in custody of the Metropolitan Police Department and awaiting extradition to Prince George's County.
