Fleeing Driver Hits Officer, Causes Fatal Crash

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested the driver who struck an officer and then caused a fatal crash in Temple Hills Thursday evening. The suspect is 22-year-old Larry Donnell Hinson of the 2700 block of Robinson Place in Southeast Washington.

On March 19, 2015, at about 8:30 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 3600 block of Branch Avenue. During that stop, Hinson sped off, striking and injuring our officer. The injured officer and two additional officers attempted to catch up to Hinson. Roughly a half-mile from the site of the traffic stop, Hinson crashed into multiple cars in the 3100 block of Branch Avenue. One of the drivers died from his injuries. He is 60-year-old Charlie Viverett of Flame Leaf Court in Clinton.

After striking the victim's car, Hinson jumped out of his SUV and ran from the area. Officers set up a perimeter and ultimately found and arrested Hinson about 30 minutes later. He was found hiding underneath a car. The investigation revealed the SUV the suspect was driving was stolen.

Hinson is charged with first and second degree assault on a police officer, auto theft, theft over $1,000, unauthorized use of a vehicle and traffic related offenses. Additional charges are possible.

Hinson is currently on probation for armed carjacking in Prince George's County. Investigators are in the process of getting his probation violated.
