Chief Magaw Statement on Arrest of Off-Duty PGPD Officer

Earlier today, the Anne Arundel County Police Department arrested a Prince George’s County police officer. Corporal Joey Torres, a 10-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, is charged with first degree assault and other charges. Corporal Torres was off duty at the time of this allegation.

Chief Mark Magaw released the following statement regarding the arrest of Corporal Torres:

“Our Special Investigation Response Team (SIRT) immediately launched an administrative investigation upon learning of the arrest. Corporal Torres’ police powers have been suspended. When one of our officers is accused of criminal wrongdoing, the Prince George’s County Police Department takes those allegations very seriously. This department holds our officers to a high set of standards whether on or off duty and our community deserves that.”

Corporal Torres is currently suspended with pay pending an administrative hearing.
