PGPD Charges Suspect in Connection With Police-Involved Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department has charged a suspect in connection with a police-involved shooting in Lanham.  He’s identified as 21- year-old Ricky Lamounte Reid, Jr., of the 6700 block of Green Haven Road in Lanham.

Ricky Lamounte Reid, Jr.

The preliminary investigation reveals on March 12, 2014, at about 12:45 am, an off-duty officer was in the 6700 block of Green Haven Road.  He was driving a marked police cruiser and in full uniform.  The officer saw what appeared to be a suspicious, parked car with two people inside.  The officer approached the car to investigate.

While investigating the circumstances, the officer ordered the suspect out of the car at which point the suspect's gun fell to the ground. The officer ordered Reid to raise his hands.  The suspect did not comply with those orders.  The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect reached for the gun.  Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.  The officer was not hurt.  The suspect's gun was reported stolen from Virginia.

Reid is in custody at an area hospital.  Detectives have obtained a warrant charging Reid with handgun and theft charges.

The involved officer has been with the Prince George’s County Police Department for three-and-a-half years.  He is on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.  The Special Investigation Response Team (SIRT) is leading the investigation into the shooting.
